I’m a returning user after a frustrating year working with BBpress – now desperate to get Simple:Press up and running again
I did an import on my BBpress install and it all looked fine until I realised I only have the replies, not the original topics.
Now, there is an issue with a locked and hidden BBpress reply which may be the culprit or may not. The rest of the program seems to function without that being fixed.
Anyway, is this a common problem with an easy solution or should I be looking at exporting to a third-party program and importing from there? Or something else?
BTW, I am doing all this on a staging site so the website flat-chat.com.au trundles along OK (but disappointingly clunky).
Thanks in anticipation …
The importer will only import topics and replies that are set to a PUBLISHED status. bbPress and its add-ons will sometimes set this status to something else other than PUBLISHED. Locked, Hidden or other similar statuses will not be imported. If you want to import these items there are two options:
1. Make sure that they are set to published.
2. We can open a custom project for you to create a modification to import all the other statuses. The cost will vary depending on how you want topics and replies with these statuses to be handled after they have been imported to SP.
Replies should not be imported without a topic so that is unusual. Have you Reset your Simple:Press admin permission? This is a post-import step that needs to be done – go to FORUMS->ADMIN->MANAGE ADMINS and click on the UPDATE ADMIN CAPABILITIES for each admin.
Building out your membership site can be a lot of work. Easy Membership Sites has pre-configured all the Simple:Press plugins and tools you need to build a complete membership site in a fraction of the usual time. Check them out: Easy Membership Sites
Yes, I updated the admin permissions, as instructed.
One thing I did do was to deactivate BBpress before I tried the import (to avoid clashes).
I’ll go back, remove Simple Press, reactivate BBpress, then start again with a fresh install, and see if that works.
