There could be hundreds of reasons to be honest. All it needs is for one server on route to ours (or indeed ours or yours) to be running slow or a little overburdened at the time.

The main issue when WP fails to make an update is that it sometimes creates the folder for the update (in the wp-content/uploads directory) and abandons it. When you try again it will create a new folder with the ‘-1’ appended which is, of course, incorrect. So worth just watching out for when you next try to complete the update.

So what can I try now?

The funny thing is that I can’t find it in the folder. Who’s online or Subscriptions aren’t showing here. Am I in the right folder?

I might be wrong here but hey, the update process is not something I know much about..

I think when a plugin / theme is updated, the old version is completely removed and replaced. So it’s possible I guess that if the process has been interrupted or something has gone awry that it’s removed the old folders but not replaced them.

If I’m wrong, hopefully someone will step in and correct as I’d be interested to know.

Either way, might be worth trying to download them from our downloads page and update them manually through FTP?

is the location to upload the new one… after downloading and unzipping, you will have a new ‘online’ directory…

LOL, sorry, I was looking for who or who’s and missed online. I’ll just update them manually. No big deal. Was mostly curious why all of a sudden I couldn’t update them automatically on the back end.
