Post By Email – Limited number of replies

First all, I love this plugin and think it has a great future on SP.

My problem has to do with a limited number of Reply to Sender Posts being made by Simple Press.

My problem I am experiencing is detailed below:

1) I am testing the site and interaction with two accounts…One Administrator Account and one Moderator account:  Call them Account A (Admin) and Account B (Moderator).

2) I can make a new topic by sending an email from Account A to a unique email address I have setup for a Test Forum.  This Topic actually posts successfully to that forum

3) When I get notified of this new Topic by my Account B email address, I can Reply to that Post with a new Post (call it First Reply Email).

4) The First Reply Email notification is then sent out and received by my Account A email.

5) When I try to make a new post (call it a Second Reply Email) via a reply to the First Reply Email notification sent to Account A…that is the email that will not post back to the Forum.

* I remove all Headers and signature lines above the “[– To reply by email insert your text above this line – instructions below –]” line.

Thanks for the help.

not sure why we routinely do that here…  I may reply to 8 or 9 different emails in sequence on one topic…

have you verified that the email address remains constant?  are these admin notices or subscription emails?

on the second or future emails, what does the topic look like?  same as first one?  that is all that really matters is the topic and ‘to’ email address is correct…  adjusting the content is just to remove quoted, past emails…

so when you try to do an email, what is in the post by email log regarding that attempt?

The email address is correct…it sends it the private email address I setup for that specific Forum.

These are subscription emails that I am testing.

I did an additional test (just now) where I first initiated a post through my Account B (Gmail via Outlook) and then tried to do a first generation Reply post from my Account A (admin account) email (Corporate email via Outlook Client)…and in this scenario the First Generation Reply did not post.  So the hung up seems to be the first Reply attempt via the Corporate Email via Outlook (which happens to be the Admin email also) that fails.  Any insight would be great.

Below is a log of emails (from my original post scenario):

yes, it made it…  but since you have the original message, seems you didnt remove the stuff below the line…

when I asked for email log, I meant on forum – toolbox – post by email log…  see if tells you why the message failed…

may need Andy’s help on this since he wrote that plugin… but he either has a new grand baby or will very shortly, so might be away for day or two…

Sorry about that.  I was not aware that there was a Post by Email Log in Toolbox.

The reason for the fail listed in the log status is “Failed Post Data Validation”.

hmmm… so the post content was rejected… as I mentioned, may need Andy to weigh in when he is back…

Sometimes it works no problem, and then I get the rejection. Through some trial and error, I have seen it getting rejected from a corporate email address (Account A) which is also email address linked to Admin account. However, I can easily make a new Topic post by email from that very same email address…it seems to be just the Reply posts that are rejected.

well, its not failing from the address… but the post content is not passing validation…  so the corporate email server may be stripping or adding stuff…

if you could provide a raw copy of the email from the corporate account… or perhaps send it to support at simple-press dot com, when Andy is back, he can look closely at it…

Mr. Papa,

I sent an email to support (today) and Andy (last week).  I hope what I sent is what you are looking for with respect to the RAW email data.  I was able to find in Outlook how to get the Email .xml.  If not, I am not sure how to get what you need to evaluate the problem further.

Thanks for your help.

Does this mean you did not get my reply (email)?

I will repeat the question I asked here:

This PBE email source is full up with Microsoft Word formatting control codes. Is the use of Microsoft Word to format your emails restricted to the account you are having problems getting published on the forum? Or are the PBE posts that are successful also created with MS Word/Office?

I use Microsoft Outlook 2010 to send and receive emails for both my Corporate Exchange account (which is having the problems on the Reply PBE only) and my Gmail Account (which seems to post fine on a Reply PBE).

Again, both email accounts do not have a problem with creating a new PBE topic…so there is communication.

Also, in reading other Threads in the forum, it is not a permissions issue as I have double checked that AND the Exchange Account is the SuperUser Admin account.

Attached is a recent log screen capture so you can see what is posted.  It is not just my email account…this is happening with other users as well as I slowly start to test outside myself.  The Gmail Account always posts successfully regardless if it is a New Topic or a Reply.PBE-Log-Screen.JPG

Finally, this is coming from my Corporate Email account that is giving me problems…so I guess we will see if this works within the confines of your setup.  That might tell us something.  – EDIT: I GUESS THIS FAILED TOO!

Well, I retract my previous “EDIT:” in the prior post.  It does look like the corporate email account was able to Post a Reply to this thread on your PBE setup.  So maybe it is not my Client or email server, but something in my setup on the WordPress site.  Does that make sense?

Before any proper answer here can you tell me the reason for the ‘EDIT: I GUESS THIS FAILED TOO!’ note at the bottom of the first of these 2 posts? What did you mean by this? My records show that you sent this using PBE and it arrived successfully so what did it fail?
