Post by email not posting to forum

We’ve installed the plug-in for posting by email and when a post is made through the web, the subscriber receives an email announcing a new post. But when they go to reply, the reply is not posted on the forum.  Our moderator gets a copy of the email but it’s not posting.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Thank you.

What does it say about it in the post by email log?

The log hasn’t updated since August 15.  We corrected the last error listed which was “connection to mailbox failed”

Is there a way to reset the post by email since it’s not posting or showing up in the error log?

Not entirely sure what you mean by ‘reset’ but if you mean you want to wipe any data to do with the plugin then simply uninstall it from the SP plugin list.

And if nothing is showing up in the error log then that is good sign. Is there nothing in the Email Log?

only old errors, but the post-by-email isn’t working and we’re not getting anything in the error log so I thought there could be a problem that reinstall might solve

Well as I say – nothing in the error log is a good thing.
Re-installing isn’t going to change your data – in fact uninstalling will wipe your current settings. And installing as such, creates nothing.
It is all down to the settings and to your email server. If that is not set up correctly then it wont do anything.

And that’s what we can’t figure out. We’ve gone over settings over and over and can’t find the problem. The user gets an email when a message is posted online, but the reply doesn’t post to the forum.

Can you go through what you have done and all your settings here?

OMG, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. We’ve updated the permissions for posting. Does it matter that wordpress calls them subscribes and simplepress calls them subscribers? (we did create a subscriber type in wordpress but that didn’t help.)

Email Address Settings:

The senders name: AODME The email from name: AODME-FORUM The email domain name: AODME.ORG

Mail server, port and password are set. TLS and SSL are off. New mail interval is 10 seconds.

What other settings should I be looking at?

Thanks

wp roles and sp usergroups are two completely distinct entities… though you can tie them together…

have you configured all your settings per:  http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/plugins/our-plugins/available-plugins/plugin-post-by-email/

one key is one email address per forum…

How do I tie them together?  I didn’t see that option.   Thanks for the link, checking it now.

Indeed – you can create as many forum User Groups as you need. And you can map them in the User Groups section of the forum admin – Map Users to User Groups
