If you are referring to the message ‘javascript:void(null)’ this isn’t an error or even a warning, it’s normally just used to open a popup. Although that does make me wonder where you are seeing it –

I take it you are subscribing through either the link on the right hand side of a forum, or through your profile?

Are you referring to clicking the ‘Subscriptions’ button in the header? If so that’s for topics, if you go to your forum profile > Subscriptions > Forum Subscriptions, you should see a list of all forums and which ones you are subscribed to with a tick.

If not, could you upload a screenshot of the box you are seeing?

I didn’t speak about ‘javascript:void(null)’. I saw differents topics on this subject on your forum and it is not my problem.

Forum profil > Subscriptions > Forum subscriptions

I see a list of all forums with squares i can check with a tick, like you said.
I choosed one and I checked it.
Last, I validated my choices by a click on “Update subscriptions”.
At this moment, there is a window who pop-up with inside a red cross and “null”.

sounds like perhaps some js errors or perhaps a security plugin or firewall intercepting the ajax response…

1. This might suggest – as Mr Papa said above in Post #4 – perhaps a security plugin or firewall intercepting the ajax response. Or – at least another plugin process hijacking the AJAX request made by Simple:Press at this time.
   You would probably need to look closely at what other WordPress plugins you are using and if any are likely to be security related – or might be seeding AJAX requests of some kind then deactivate them briefly to test if that resolves the problem.
2. Another possibility might be that your hosting company is using the ‘mod_security’ module on your web-server which could cause a failure. You would need to ask their support if this might be the case.
3. There is a small possibility that the translation file for the SP Subscriptions plugin is corrupt and it would, perhaps, be worth downloading it again and replacing the one you are now using.

Let’s start with these possibilities before we go any further.

So, these is the results of my research :

– Firewall is not the problem.
– I closed all the others WP and SP plugins, without success.
– You said that is perhaps the “mod security” of my web-server but i don’t think so : the subscription system works well if I want to subscribe to a topic, it’s only with the forum subscription I have a problem. Like I think the system is the same for the topic and for the forum, I suppose it’s not a solution for my problem. Tell me if it’s not a good reasoning.
– I uninstall and reinstate the subscription plugin, it’s not the solution. But there is something new :

After I uninstall and reinstate the subscription plugin, I verified the members and group ‘s authorization, but I don’t see anymore the option “forum subscription” in “profil/subscriptions”.
I suppose, if I am alone with this problem, that it’s not your fault but a problem in my system/site/server or anything else…
And I have no more time to devote myself to this problem, so I will do without this option.

There is a difference between the topic subscription process and the forum subscription process from the users profile so I would not discount mod_security totally. At least it is still worth investigating.

If you uninstalled (as opposed to deactivated) then all settings would revert to default so do not forget that you also need to turn on forum subscriptions in the admin > components > subscriptions control panel.

I am sorry to say that this report is, indeed, unique. This always makes it harder to track down an issue. Subscriptions is a very popular and widely used plugin which forces me to suspect a third-party problem.

One thing we did NOT do however, was simply yo download a fresh copy of the plugin and overwrite the current code to make sure that a simple corruption did not take place on the initial install. Might be worth a try. If you do this – I would recommend a completely manual process. Delete the current ‘subscriptions’ folder in ‘forum-plugins’ and replace with a new one using ftp. It is unlikely to be the problem as we would probably see other effects but you never know!
