next step is to use firefox and firebug… with the console open, see what happens when you click on the vote icon…
since guests cannot rate, I cannot try it myself…
So far, I absolutely love this forum setup you guys have going here. On the other hand, I cannot even come close to naming how many times I see “you need to use firefox and firebug” to find a problem to the customer. To be honest, most would not understand how to use that program to find a problem anyway. Relying on them to find the issue is quit unprofessional in all honesty. I understand that you guys have a very small team and limited time to spend on the product. It’s also free so complaining would also be something unpleasant by a customer as well. On the flip-side though, I think that you should not release a new feature until the product works 90% of the time regardless of other features people have on their WP installation. I understand that you need to release a product and have feedback on it to fix issue that you missed as well. Perhaps you could create a group of experienced designers and developers to look at your work. If they pass the new feature as “good”, then release the product. I notice the same issues people are complaining about around the forums day after day and most of the time the response is “you need to use firefox and firebug“…
I also had an issue a while back and this was the response to my issue. Perhaps you should create a plugin that tracks crashes and reports for your program so that you can find these mistakes immediately and why it happened so that you don’t have to rely on un-experienced designers and developers to find the overall issues. I would be happy to install that plugin.
Also, how about a page that gives people an update on “upcoming fixes” and “we are aware of”… this too would help with the say “this is working” type posts.
I don’t want to sound like I am bad mouthing you guys because I am not. I think you are doing a great job overall. But I also think that a better system could be created to finding issues and bugs.
