ShareThis plugin slows down site and spam issues?

I’ve checked out the review for the ShareThis plugin which I believe is the service SimplePress uses.  The reviews are pretty bad mentioning performance issues, site slowdown, and possible spam.  I haven’t experienced this but then again haven’t tested SimplePress enough.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has noticed any of this.  I trust SimplePress wouldn’t entangle users with sub par plugins, just wanted to bring this to attention.

Also noticed there aren’t any replies from the plugin developers on their support forum, not a good sign 🙁

No there is no tie between our simple press share this plugin and the wordpress one.. two completely non related plugins…  in fact, if you have both activated on the forum page, you may run into issues…  likely some js conflicts since both communicating with share this service…  if you only want our share this on the forum, you should deactivate the wp one…

Interesting.  Well I am in fact interested in using a sharing plugin on my site where SimplePress is installed.  Would it be better if I used a different sharing service/plugin for the rest of my pages/posts?  My knowledge with sharing services/plugins is limited so I will look into it.

not sure – its what I have always used… but there could be better??   if you temp disable it, does the performance pick back up?

Does that wp share this plugin let you not use it on certain page?

you might look at the Plugin Organize as it lets you decide which plugins run on which pages… can be used to optimize performance or in some cases, avoid conflicts…

OK I”ll check out the Plugin Organize plugin.

No I haven’t run into any problems yet, I”ll keep an eye on it.  I was just going off of what you mentioned that there may be conflicts..  I guess the keyword is MAY.

yeah, unfortunately, given the size of the WP ecosystem, there will be conflicts between plugins…
