I installed the subscribe plugin but I’m not receiving emails to a test account once i’ve post multiple times and auto subscriptions is on. What am i missing so my users get email from replies on their posts?

Thanks

Turning auto-subscribe on – as it says in the admin panel – sets the default for NEW users. Each user can then opt to have this feature or or off and this is set in their SP profile. SO make sure your users have made this personal choice.

I see that option in my profile on the simple press forum but im not seeing this option under a user profile on my site. Do i have to enable that option for it to appear?

You do need to turn on the permission to allow people to subscribe. Each member group can be set individually so you can have some that are allowed to subscribe and some who cannot.

It would be on the permissions area. The permission to subscribe needs to be turned for which permission set that you want to allows to subscribe.

So once i have set “Can subscribe to topics within a forum” to on and have the plugin set to subscribe automatically, a person that starts a post or participates in one will get an email every time there is activity in that thread, correct?

Thanks!

Correct – but remember that users have to individually opt in to this on their SP profile > Options > Post Options. Once you have the facility turned on – they have to decide whether they want subscription emails or not.

What is going if I go to SP profile > Options > Post Options and don’t find the option to turn subscriptions on?

The only option available is

Preferred Editor:

Plain Textarea

I’ve set subscriptions in permissions, I think, the plugin is installed.

Looks like the same thing is happening with Watch.  Plus I have Private Messaging installed but no PM buttons in posts.

users will need permission to subscribe or pm…  when you install the plugins, all permission sets on forum – permissions – manage permissions will default to no permissions…   so just need to enable for those you want to be able to…

Thanks for your response.

I have gone into user permissions and full access which is the permission level I use for all forum users, I have clicked these permissions on:

Can use the private messaging system
Can subscribe to topics within a forum
Can watch topics within a forum

When I login with a different login name which is set to full access user permission, I am not seeing the option to subscribe to topics set in SP profile > Options > Post Options

Let’s talk this through.

When you activate the subscriptions plugin and set the permission to enable your users to set subscriptions, they should see a ‘subscribe’ button at the bottom of each topic. This enables them to subscribe to selected topics.

If you want to enable auto-subscription then this needs to be separately enabled on the options > members admin panel. Turning this on then gives your users who have permission to subscribe the option to opt in or out of auto-subscriptions on their profile.

So – is this how you have things set up?
