I have added the Subscriptions plugin and done all the right things in all the right places with regard to the tickboxes, and yet I do not get any email notification of a new topic in my inbox. Is there any reason why this is not happening?

I am using NinjaFirewall if that is of any significance.

Hey James,

I'm not sure about NinjaFirewall, but if you've been getting emails from your WordPress site then it shouldn't be a problem as Simple Press uses the standard WP mail system and doesn't send emails directly.

However, WP is notoriously bad at sending emails so you may want to look in to a SMTP plugin which should help if it's a general WP problem. HGK SMTP, Postman SMTP and WP-Mail all have a pretty good reputation and are definitely worth trying.

Thanks it's working now. I needed to send it from another user not me!

However I want all users to be subscribed to the forum and purchased the plugin for Membership subscibe also. However where do I change it so all members get email notifications of a new post?

No problem, I guess you mean you only receive a notification when someone else posts, not yourself? Either way glad it's resolved.

As for Membership Subscribe, it can only be used when setting up a usergroup with permissions on a forum.

For example once the plugin is enabled, when you create a forum, after selecting usergroup and the chosen permission set you should then have another panel sub section ‘Auto Subscribe Membership to Forum’ where you can check the button and save.

If you already have your forums usergroups and permissions set up, you could remove them and re-apply them to access the membership subscribe option and enable it.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

The Subscription plugin does not give me any user notifications.

However, the WordPress admin user gets notification for any new topics and replies in the forum. This is as expected according to Forums settings in the Your Admin Options. So apparently the WordPress itself is able to send out e-mails.

But no notifications for my user, even I have ticked on everything for subscription in the user profile menu.

I have ticked on almost everything in the forum's admin panel->Components->Subscriptions. And tried several combinations, in case there are a strange dependency.

Any clue what's wrong? What to check out for?

that is exactly what the subscription plugin does...  but it is subscription, so opt in...  users have to subscribe to a forum or topic to get notifications of new posts..

also, obviously, you wont get notification of your own posts as you already know about them...

and out of curiosity, why did you tack this onto a 6 month old resolve topic??

I just received my first e-mail notification, so I guess notification is working.

I still haven't much traffic in my forum, so I will let it work for a while before I make a conclusion.

(And answer for your curiosity, I assumed you preferred to have similar questions posted in existing topics with similar content, so I thought this thread was a good one to post my question in. But next time I will create a brand new topic for you.)
