The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

Ok, so I looked around a little bit and couldn’t find anything related to this so I apologize if I’m asking another redundant question but here it goes… I’ve got SimplePress installed on my site and I’m trying to upload a number of the plugins that go with it but I keep getting this message –

Unpacking the package…

Installing the plugin…

The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

Plugin install failed

I read on some of the other forums that I’m suppose to contact my host.. but they said everything looked fine on their end. Any ideas on how to get these plugins to work? otherwise I’m going to have to go with another format.

You can not add plugins via the WP add plugin from zip option. You can update them once they are installed but not install them. Please see here for details: http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/plugins/using-plugins/

Oh… well that would explain a lot. So I did plenty of reading and after downloading filezilla, accessing the site through the FTP connection, copying all of the plugins to the correct directory (I followed this step by step http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/plugins/using-plugins/) and getting all the way to the end I’m still not seeing any plugins in the simplepress plugin section. Does it just take a while for the files to appear or am I missing something? I swear I’ve got everything looking exactly as the link above shows.

I’m having the same problem as you. I have everything set up, plug-ins uploaded to the identified folder, but can’t find out where to “activate” them from.

I also have the plugins loaded into the correct folder – via FTP – but when I go to SP Available Plugins, they do not appear. ?? Thank you in advance for any advice you have for us. Joe.

Nevermind. I figured it out. (I had uploaded them to the correct folder, etc. as a zipped file. But I had not unzipped them. Once I unzipped them, they appeared as available plugins in SP.)

One last quick question… which plugin is it that allows the display of (Bold, ItalicUnderline , Bulletin, Numbered Bulletin, Block Quote, Indent, etc… etc… etc… ) That I see when I’m writing this? I thought it was the Image and File Uploader Plugin but I’ve got that uploaded and I still don’t have that bar above.

Ok that’s not my problem, i have them unzipped .. I can’t seem to find the Simple:Press setup program. I don’t have the ability to activate / de-activate plugins or install / uninstall them.

Curtis B: you need the tinyMCE SP plugin.

rcarrollct: Are you saying you have no ‘Plugins’ menu item in the SP forum admin menu?

it would be its own section… are you the sp admin you upgraded to or installed 5.0?  if not, you may need to go to forum – admins – manage admins and add the manage plugins and manage themes capability to your user…
