the file upload function – i installed the file uploader plugin – does not allow me to upload files from my computer. permissions, file uploads and storage locations seems to be set well. the “upload attachment” button does not offer any file selection.
can you please help me.

This is almost certainly because something – probably your wp theme – is loading jQuery for the Google CDN. This is usually pretty easy to fix and this codex article explains why this is a problem: http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/faq/troubleshooting/what-is-this-jquery-conflict/
