you can usually do via ssh, ftp or your file manage in control panel of host… or you could ask your host…
done via ftp and all sp folders and files have same ownership (my host username) as all other wp folders and files
Well that – of course – is both good and bad news!
So we need to determine what it is about your environment that is different to other users as this is a unique report.
I think the next move has to be to talk to your host. Can you send them the plugin activation link url and ask them if they can identify why it 404’s?
Additionally – ask them specifically (1) if they have imposed mod_security on your server and (2) if it could be the brackets in the query variable that is causing the problem on your server.
Hi there,
just got reply from hosting company:
Hi,
safe_mode is disabled on the server where your account is located.
I’m sorry, but it is the problem with your plugin not with the server. I’m sorry, I would love to help you out here, but you have to understand that we do not make the software and its not possible for us to fix this for you. You will have to speak to the creator of the software to get the best possible support. If it has anything to do with the server, we will be more than glad to help you.
it appears that justhost support is not too interested in the matter as they have answer nothing but the safe_mode is disabled.I tried other combinations:activate the plugin by itself and then when bulk activate all 3 editors, all of the editor are activated
But now i cannot type in the txt field or put smileys in… , can press the buttons or type but cannot see anything changes, it’s like a white canvas. Tried to highlight as i thought it may be white font but out of luck here
I really appreciate you support and thank you for all your effort.
love hosting support… probably shared at that… 😉
if it was a general plugin issue, I suspect we would have more than one user with the problem…
Anyways, to look anymore, we would need to get a closer look ourselves… watch the ajax responses and http headers and such… we can take this closer look if you can send us (both yellow swordfish and mr papa) a temp wp admin account with sp admin caps via pm… we might also need ftp access to upload some debug code… if that works, please link to this topic in the pm so we know what its about… understand it thats not doable…
I think you should perhaps be a little angry as well. If you asked them the questions I suggested you ask (mod_security and the brackets in the url) and that was their answer (safe_mode) then I would be looking for a new host this morning!
Anyway – we will wait to hear from you regarding Steve’s request.
Actually can you just confirm something for me?
I know you have this problem with the 3 editors. Do you have it with any of the other plugins? Are you using the file uploader plugin and, if so, did that activate without issue?
Was there ever a resolution to this? I am having same issue. 404 error when activating the TinyMCE plug in
Well if you read through the whole thread you will see that the user seemed to disappear and I do not readily recall a PM conversation taking place (although if such a PM contained credentials it would have been deleted at the time).
Have you checked through the suggestions and questions raised in this thread? I.e., folder name, folder permissions and ownership, mod_securty etc., in case any do actually apply?
I did indeed read through the whole thread. This is why I asked if there was a resolution, thinking perhaps it was done outside of the forum. Since I just paid the member fee to get this plug in and access support I thought maybe this was an issue for others as well.
My host says that mod security is enabled since it is shared hosting, they cannot disable for security. The rest mentioned is all in place as far as folders, permissions etc.
mmm mod-security is the bane of every developers existence. The really important thing to ask – if they do have it enabled – is would it be throwing out the tinymce activation url. I don’t know what you know but mod_security works by pattern matching so if a suspect pattern in your hosts list was matched to the activation url then it would stop the url being requested and that will throw a 404 error. I think we must stay focused on the fact that 404 does mean the server can not find the file.
So if you could ask them if the activation url – which you can get by hovering over the link – is at risk from their specific set of patterns (and there no grand list we can look at) then that needs to be established.
And worth noting that as far as I am aware you are just the second with this issue which does, to me, suggest an environmental issue.
OK, I have sent them a formal support ticket with activation links and what you mentioned and will wait to see what they say. I will let you know what they say…..
Sorry to say support just redirected me back to the plugin support. They said they saw no apache or php issues.
What would I have to send you so you could take a peek at this?
