Adding Alt Tags To Reboot Theme

Hi Guys, I'm wanting to add alt image tags to simple press Reboot theme. While not a major ranking factor i believe this would be a beneficial mod.

Basically wherever an image is displayed in the code, add alt="name" to it.

Going through the light matte overlay file i am using and see only 5-6 images. According to Bing seo tool it's seeing 29 images with no alt tags.

I have the Reboot child theme active. My question is what files do i copy to this child theme to add the required alt tags?

Thanks again for all your help.. wink

That is because they are not done via the theme...  and the alt tags do exist, but in some cases, they are just empty strings...

we already have an open ticket to add some text to the empty string alt tags...

I thought I could help out with this since I know what needed to be done. But since your on it, any chance of adding the basic open graph tags too? On Jun 13, 2015 1:20 PM, "Simple:Press Support" wrote:

Hey Andy, since you are tasked with this, is it possible to add basic open graph tags while your in the core code? You guys have done a fantastic job with this forum. I am happy to assist any way I can. If we can tweak the seo by adding open graph sp will rock!

No, it wouldnt be included as part of the image alt tags...  but we can open a different ticket for consideration... no ETA...  of course, if you wanted to submit a patch, would help it along... 😉

I wouldn't know how to create a patch. But I have been experimenting with seo. My theme writer came up with a code snippet that removes to forum page open graph tags.

Using the forum pages yoast seo title line I have 'Web Forums | Doc's Forums' which sets the base title line for the forum. Then with the appropriate settings in components seo sp is set to show the forum that is selected and in topic view only show the topic description. That combination is improving the page rank.

Open graph tags would be a huge help for seo. Google yawns at pages that don't have open graph. As for a featured image, a toggle to set featured image like WordPress posts, or a check box to select a default forum image would work if a forum post did not use an image.

As you are probably aware, @mr-papa is our 'SEO' guy here. I have never fully got my head around it - lack of interest I guess! And he is away this week. But I find myself oddly interested and would like to know a little more detail.

Any chance of a link to a forum page where tou have this operating so I can look at the source and see exactly what has been added?

Mornin Andy, here is a post on ebms. Note the image that's inserted has it's image and alt tags edited to match the post. It's the 1st organic Google result on a related search. Not bad.. wink

SP is perfect for short posts. There are times like this that it's better than writing a blog post.

What am I missing? Apart from the prefix attribute of the html tag at the top I don't see any meta 'og' tags at all in the source? Surely must be missing something...
