The forum search seems to find information in the post part but not the topic? found that the advance search allows for a search on the post and topic.

Is there a way to set the default search to uses the post and topic?

You bet.

It is done by changing the default setting in the theme’s template’s file. There are a set list or parameters in the spHead.php file in the theme’s /templates folder.

You would change this line to a 3

 searchIncludeDef’=> 1,  # 1 = content, 2 = titles, 3 = content and title (warning #3 is a resource hog)

As you can see #3 demands more resources. The codex article http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/api/template-functions-and-the-api/display-template-functions/common-view/sp_searchform/ goes through this in more detail and shows all the lines that can be changed.

If you get into changing your SP theme you should create a custom one if you haven’t already. Details on that. http://codex.simple-press.com/codex/themes/theme-basics/creating-a-theme/
