We're converting a bbpress messageboard to Simple Press, could I get that import script too?

I have about 800 members and about 4000 posts. This showed up at the bottom of the import:

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Looking in the cPanel error log, I see this: [Fri Oct 07 03:27:54 2011] [error] [client xxx] invalid CGI ref "/500.php" in /problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/xxx/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://xxx/wp-admin/admin.php?page=sp-import/admin/spimport-setup.php&sys=bbpress

(the wheel is still spinning)

The import eventually finished, but only 1 of the 3 forums look correct. The 2 incorrect forums have only 1 page of topics.

Is there a way to see more debug information?

that says your server threw a 500 error... not sure why... we have imported much, much large databases, so its not a size issue... and not an error that has been reported with the importer previously...

no further information is available when the server errors out like that... it is possible you ran out of php memory... but the processing directive statement makes me wonder...

If you were to reload the db archive and try again, does it occur again?

is this a foreign language import? ie could there be some unicode or non utf character in the post content?

It's possible there were unicode characters in the db. I tried pulling the entire site offline to localhost and didn't see the [error processing this directive] error, but the bbpress import still had a few errors.

I then tried a SMF import (I used to run SMF, then imported that to bbPress). At the end of the import it said IMPORT FAILURES: but nothing after it. I actually have more forums that didn't import properly on my localhost than my live site...

weird, we have hundreds of successful imports and only a couple of failures... obviously we dont import all the data - users, groups, forums, topics and posts...

we had a couple with cyrillic characters that have caused issues but we couldnt duplicate and awaiting an offer of sample database to try and see what is going on...

obviously, the two databases have to be on the same server...

If you want to have a go at it, I certainly don't mind. I have the entire WordPress, bbPress, and SMF tables g-zipped up in one database and it's about 12MB. Just let me know where to send it 🙂
