Support Forum
Hello,
After 20 years, my client is closing their forum. I would like to archive the SimplePress install and lock down any futher interaction wtih the forum. What is the best way to manage this? We are still on v5 and am wondering about any future vulnerabilites even if the forum is locked down for users.
I am familiar with your plugin as I am the person who recommended, converted to SP from BuddyPress and updated the software over the years, so any technical aspects you need to share, I am good 🙂
Thanks!
Meredith
Hi:
We don't have a formal archive option. But, you can remove the plugin code from the server using FTP and leave the data in the database as-is. If you need to view the data again you can put back the plugin files.
That should address your issues with security while keeping the data secure - as long as you keep using your current database and/or move all the tables over to any new database or host you might use in the future.
Thank you for your speedy reply! That is do-able but then the shared or bookmarked links will generate 404's? The customer still wants to have the content for visitors just not an active forum any longer. Does the newest version have any options for archiving? Or what about this? http://prntscr.com/qk309o
Oops - missed answering other parts of your question.
1. Yes, the read-only lock for the entire forum should do the trick for most users and the permissions system should handle the rest (if for some reason the read-only lock doesn't work for them).
2. The latest version does not have anything additional in this area.
Thanks!
Oops, one last question...
Where do I hide or remove the Registration section seen above the forum. See: http://prntscr.com/qkf4h5
Don't want to mislead anyone 🙂
thanks!
