Hi,

We have one forum that is open to our visitors.

We then want to create a second forum and only let select users with accounts access that forum. We can create a custom WordPress role but not sure if the Simple Press Forum can support this need.

Thanks!

Hello:

You can create permission sets which are then assigned to user groups on the forums screen.  But you probably already know this.

So you can set up a couple of permission sets under FORUMS->PERMISSIONS (or you can modify the existing ones).

Then, under FORUMS->FORUMS->MANAGE GROUPS AND FORUMS, you can assign permissions to your user groups.

The missing link is how do you get certain WordPress roles to automatically be assigned to user groups?

You can do this under FORUMS->USER GROUPS->MAP USERS TO USER GROUP.  For each role in your WordPress installation you can specify the default forum User Group for members when they are assigned that role.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply. We went ahead and followed your instructions and we're stuck at the last area. We created our user group. Where do we go to change role the "Default For" field? I created an account under User with the new role, but since the role is not attached to the new group I created, the new account is not populating. Are we doing this right? Thank you in advance!

Go to FORUMS->USER GROUPS->MAP USERS TO USER GROUP:

Lets assume your WordPress role is called "VIP".  And lets assume that you've named your forum user group "VIP" as well.  Scroll down until you see the field labeled "DEFAULT USERGROUP FOR "VIP".  In that drop down you should see your user group.

Then click the UPDATE MAPPING SETTINGS button.

Now, when you add any user to WordPress with the VIP role, they should end up in the user group you've chosen.
