There can be any number of reasons why that is the case. There might be a clue in the WordPress debug.log file. Turn on the WordPress debug flags and try the operation again. Hopefully there will be data written to the debug.log file related to this. Grab it, zip it up and attach it here so we can take a look.

PS: Can you also post your configuration - WordPress version, php version, host (and plan you're on) etc.

I use wordpress 5.5.1 on php 7.4
I attach zipped error log.
