Support Forum
I have had a SP forum for 5 years +. I have seen this discrepancy for years. The forum will show a certain number of users... google analytics will show a different number of users on site.
For example that's a current screen shot.
Google Analytics show just 30 users on the entire site (my blog is bigger than my forum).
I have GA broken into three parts - Blog, Forum and Both. Regardless of which view I select, I see the same # of users.. "30" or whatever it is.
Does anyone have any idea what I've done wrong?
Thanks.
Hi:
There's no good answer to this. Anyone that collects their own stats would have different data than Google because everyone collects it differently and google filters out some data as well where-as most other collectors do not. For example, when we've done ads on Facebook, the data there is always different than that reported by Google. Same with twitter etc. You just need to choose your data source that you trust the most and use that for your decision making.
Thanks.
Also note that the count is based on those visiting an actual forum page. And this can be inflated by the 'timeout' value - i.e., how long do you wait until you consider that the user has moved on. They may still be on the site but no longer visiting your forum - or they ma have left the site completely. They may even still be on a page in your site reading a long post. Or in theor kitchen making a cup of coffee!
So your forum has a timeout value. (Forum Admin > Components > Login and Registration > Tracking Timeout. I.e., how long to wait until a user is considered gone. Set it too high and the numbers may grow without anyone actually visiting. Set too low and it can miss users.
