Forgive me if this already exists (I haven't found it).

I think it would be useful to be able to export all backend settings and be able to back them up, or import to another server.

My developement server is a mirror of my current project. It would be slick if I could import or sync SP options (all eleventy billion of them) so whatever changes I make on the test server can be applied to the live server in one shot. The skinning and custom code I'm working on is very dependant on certain features being disabled or enabled to appear correctly.

Just a thought 🙂

It's a thought. Mostly, all of the option settings are in the 'sfoptions' table. Might be a good one for an SP plugin when we deliver the architecture.

Do you also have the following?

  • Export the content of whole forum.
  • Similarly import
    • of Simple:Press content
    • other forum platform content (phpBB ect.)

All of this is built on OpenSource goodness, which is in principle meant to give people options and control over their own data.

I believe most of the other major forum platforms do so.

I'm looking forward to test driving Simple:Press.

Exporting SP content is really just a matter of exporting the entire WP database. Don't forget this is a WP plugin.
A user of ours is in the process of creating an import tool which I know includes phpBB. Do not have a time for arrival yet though.

That's great news, that some one is working on an import tool, that includes phpBB.

Yes, clearly you can export the whole WP database. But what I'm talking about is eporting Simple:Press to another Forum platform, such as phpBB. So in the other direction. I'm already guessing the answer is no.

not currently no...   but with a full plugin api coming in 5.0, it could easily be added as a plugin...

Sounds exciting! When is 5.0 dur for realease then? I might hold off installing until then. There's heaps of other things to do on the site before I add a forum.

V5 is still a long way off. Every time we get stuck into coding WP announce a new release that screws up something in SP and we have to go back to work on updates - like 4.4.0 being readied now for WP 3.1

The best I can say at the moment for V5 is sometime next year.
