I know that there is an "Add Topic" button once you enter a forum, however, I think it would greatly increase usability to have an "Add Topic" button immediately once you're at the main forum page where the groups and forums are listed out. Then, once someone has clicked this, they have to choose from a drop down menu of available forums. This drop down could look just like the "Select a Forum" drop down on the main page and this button could be right above those drop downs (though I suppose it depends on the theme). I think it would help having this very clear signal and easy access button allowing people to worry about where to post it later.

There IS an add new topic button on each forum row beneath the topic and post counts... No good?
And I will note your idea because it would probably make quite a nice and simple template tag for the future which would then enable it to be used outside of the forum page as well.

Ah yes, I see that. Yeah, I still think it might be good to have a universal button which could help workflow a bit more. A couple of our members had mentioned it and I know on another forum (powered by vbulletin I believe), I found myself wishing there was a button like that. I guess it comes from wanting to worry about what forum it goes in after, where the biggest priority is getting your thoughts out. Maybe for example, you'll get a better idea after you've written it. Anyway, it is good that there's that button under each forum all the same! Just a thought.

We have noted the request and opened a ticket for consideration. The biggest issue is that you need to select a forum to create a topic. So in addition to a button, you will need a select menu to pick the right forum to go to in order to create the topic...
