I'm filling custom smilie requests today. The ladies LOVES them some smilies. I noticed when posting the smilie window is filling quickly and I'm not sure I'm crazy about that. I'd like to see common smilies there, and then additional smilies can be loaded from a pop-up. VBulliten has this feature, and I believe some other bbs's. Is this possible in the future?
Sorry to be MIA lately. We had a launch and much TLC needs to be done 🙂
we can add it to the list. Should be very simple to add when v5.0 ships with the complete plugin api.
good luck on the site!

Thanks for the well wishes Mr. Papa... means a lot coming from you guys.
Good to hear it will be a easy to add feature in the future. Smilies aren't really so important to me. But I've been getting a bunch of feedback as far as the forum is concerned. Bells and whistles sell. It's bloat I know, but it seems toys are very important to some niche's. Seems I'm now knee deep in one of those niche's now LOL
I'm sorry to even ask... but any rough timeline when 5.0 is planned or hoped to be released? Monitoring all these threads with all the fixes and future features that are planned, it seems like it will be a stellar release!
well, as the plugin popularity has grown, we get more and more feature requests... we try to take the most often requested first (plus a few that we want to work)...
So the major goal of 5.0 is to put a full plugin api in place so we, or users, can write their little plugins easily to extend simple press and not have to bloat the overall package - ours has gotten quite big!
We have already moved watches, subscriptions, post ratings, and editors (yes, now you can only grab the editors your want or add new ones) to plugins. Much more moving is planned. And we already have on new plugin which is akismet spam protection on posts..
We also will be attempting to change from a skin system to a templating system for forum appearance to make the design and flow of the forum elements much much more customizable...
So a lot going on in 5.0... We dont have a planned date yet, but it wont be this year... We will need healthy alpha and beta test periods.

Fair enough answer 🙂 Actually a perfect one. I've been dragging my feet about skinning the forum on the site I just launched because I know I won't be completely happy. I'm interested in making the color scheme depend more on graphics. ie using sliding doors technique for title bars and buttons. IE isn't ready for css3 special affects so I'm certain graphics are the route I need to go for the "look". I'm not afraid of messing with the core to add the extra divs and such, but I AM afraid of the upgrades. LOL Needless to say, I'm most excited about the templating bit of 5.0.
Nuff rambling... you said what I needed to hear. It is worth the efforts skinning for the time being.
Thanks for giving me a bit of your time Mr. Papa.
we will put out a holler when we are ready for early testers of plugins api (pretty far along) and theming (which frankly only exists in discussion at this point - no code)
