Many sites have established forums, but I'm sure many using WordPress would consider Simple:Press if there was a converter available. I'm thinking of MyBB in particular, as this is what I use, but the other important ones would include vBulletin, phpBB, SMF and bbPress.

Doing the database work manually is possible, but quite challenging for most people. It is quite an undertaking to produce a unified Simple:Press converter, however you may be interested to look at the MyBB Merge system. This would be a good starting point for someone looking to develop something similar.

This is exactly what I'm looking for.  I've had my forum on vbulletin for many years, but now that I have found Wordpress MU, BuddyPress, and Simple:Press. I would love to be able to convert my forum from vbulletin to Simple:Press.  There are several converters out there, but I can't find any that allows me to go from vbulletin to Simple:Press.

How can someone like me who knows nothing about SQL (besides the basic installation part) achieve this?

its not a simple task - php and mysql knowledge as well as WP and SPF database structure definitely required. We are trying to find some other folks interested in helping us here that could start with some converters.

I am working on a converter to port from vbulletin 3.8+ to Simple:press.  After I get a version working somewhat I will post it up here for some feedback and assistance in testing and finding bugs.

that would be sweet. we have multiple requests for that, but as a two man development team (along with Radio on support and testing!), there is only so much we can do. this would be much appreciated!

Hopefully, it wil be on the 4.0.1 db scheme.  no major changes planned for 4.1 (yet anyways).
