Not entirely sure what you are doing, but I wouldnt expect any problems... a forum user is a wp user, so assume that plugin emails to wp users which means forum users...

The idea is simple really: I want to start a double opt-in MailChimp list with everyone who registers for the forum so that I can send them email announcements etc...

So, what you are saying is that if the plugin works to integrate WP with MailCHimp it will also integrate all people who register for the Simple:Press forum, right?
