Enhance "Subscribe to Thread" email

Hello.....I noticed that when you subscribe to a thread within the SimplePress forum, the email is sent only with very limited functionality. The body of the thread is not sent but only a URL to the thread is included. Is there any plugin to enhance this feature so the email also contains the body of the thread and not only the URL.

Also, is there a feature to customize the email i.e. look and feel and what is sent and what not.

Thanks for looking into this.

Regards,

Ashish

we already have tickets open to include post content in the email...

how would you want to customize the email? we could add a simple filter on the content and let you modify it however you want...

It would be great if there were a filter added so you could modify it.

The ability to add your logo and extra info like how to manage your subscriptions would be nice to include in the email. I will email you an example.

Yes, that level of customization will be great. To start with even if we can embed the content of the forum topic, that would be good enough. When do you think the advanced email will be available?

Thanks so much for looking into this.

The updated Subscriptions plugin is going to require the next SP core update - 5.1 - so no definitive timeframe on that yet - but not too long.

single email subscriptions will include the post content...  but the digest will just contain a list of the subscribed topics that have new posts since last digest...

Digest is a fantastic idea, some of our topics can get 100 + responses a day so people go crazy with the emails they get.
Or... Only send out a single email betwpeen between the first post and the user returning to read that topic, I know other forum software works that way but don't know how feasible it is to install that feature, I imagine it's complicated.

I think it's also important to have an unsubscribe from topic & unsubscribe from all option in the email.

digests can be daily or weekly - you set that as admin...

a single email about subscription and the user going back to the topic could be quite problematic... that could be fair amount of data to be stored and needed to be accessed on posts... could really affect performance...  and then its not really a subscription either...

I am not sure I want to go the route of unsubscribe links in the email...  you wouldnt believe the amount of confusion users have when they get an email saying they have a new private message and when they click on the link, they get an accessed denied message... of course, its because they are not logged into the forum and thus cannot see the pm... would be same issue with unsubscribing...  only worse, because at least with pms we have our own page template and can make things look better...  for the unsubscribe they would get a really ugly mess and its not worth it to create a special page template just for a unsubcribe attempt when they are not logged in...  plus its quite simple to unsubcribe from all topics/forums either via the popup or the profile...  will think on it, but I dont think its in the future...
