I'll give you a scenario:

A group of writers need a forum to collaborate on character creation and stories and etc. They want a forum in which they can put posts that need to be strictly formatted, like character designs, plot outlines, etc.

The best way to do this, in my opinion, would be to have the ability to replace the normal editor with forms the admin can create and customize. The OP would be restricted to this form but the replies for discussion would revert back to the normal editor for freeform text entering.

This could be useful for support forums, role-playing forums and many others.

Also, an additional feature to this would be to give the poster the ability to repeat certain fields (which were made repeatable by the admin) while writing the post, making it free flowing but still with specific formatting and organization.

Tell me if need to clarify anything.

You may find that hard to find although some of the bigger commercial forums may offer that sort of functionality. SP has limited capability in terms of creating a form in the editor.
It could probably be developed as a Simple:Press plugin on our next major release (V5) which comes with a plugin and theme api.
But good luck finding what you need.

I've had a similar brainstorm. I was thinking of template for user submitted recipes so they would be in a specific format. I plan on exploring this when v5 comes out and making the plugin will be simpler. Who knows, whatever I come up with might give you a good start on a plugin more suited for your needs.

There is an option already to define 'content' that appears in the editor for a new topic. But it would be pretty limited and certainly wouldn't include things like POST variables for example. So not a true 'form' as such.

well if you have another plugin that does forms and uses shortcodes, you maybe able to include said shortcode in a forum post content provided you have enabled it..  of course, you need to process the form when its posted...

the biggest problem you will face is the fact that the post editor window and options is a form itself... so you may run into html issues if you embed a from within another forum as its not really semantically correct...  also, the post content is filtered and may strip out those html elements (cant remember) though you should be able to filter the allowed tags in 5.0

be a challenge...
