We're about to launch a website with the Simple Press plugin. It seems like a great forum.

One of the concerns I have about using the Forum is rolling it out there without any kind of quick "getting started" document for our new visitors. Unlike many of you, these are people who might not be all that tech savvy, or maybe just need a few pointers to get the ball rolling.

I know it's difficult to keep a "how-to" document updated with new rollouts, but is there anything already existing that I could publish on my site for new users? Otherwise, I'll probably wind up creating one on my own.

Thanks!

well, frankly, we dont really have what you are looking for. We have several resources on getting started and how to, but they are aimed at Forum admins and helping them set up their site - not for their users and how to use their site. That will be quite dependent on how you set up your site using the myriad of options we give you. To come up with, and as you say, keep current a single resource for all possible forum front end configurations would be very time consuming. If you do something along those lines, we would love it if you could share it with the community and perhaps we could find a way to incorporate it into the plugin.

That said, we will be launching a wiki with the Gold release of 4.1 (its actually there now, just we are in the process of populating) and we will have some topics on forum front end usage. Also, its a community site, so folks will be able to add there own info/tips/etc.

gmwrites,

Have you heard of Camstasia? This would be a very usefull tool for you. Youc an always create an How-to video. That way your visitors and members can always have access to an updated video help file.
