Support Forum
Hello,
I'm creating a open source website like wikipedia, but only on legal topics. For a forum I'm using yours because it's looking really great and with a lot of functions! Great job you're doing!
However I have a problem and I hope you can advise me if it's me doing it wrong or there is no such feature yet. I want members registered on the forum to be open for viewing by anyone visiting the site. No guest sign-in to be required to view profiles, but to communicate with my members they need to create a profile.
In "Manage Permissions" menu I ticked "Can view members profiles" on the groups "No Access", "Read only access" and "Limited Access" but unregistered people still cant see the members page and it says "Access Denied."
Please advise.
Kind regards,
Mitko
you've changed the permissions but have you applied a usergroup and permission to your forums? thats how they come into effect.
also, what do you have for setting in the members profile section on forum - options - member settings?

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. Yes, after I changed the permissions I applied them globally.
For members profile I have this:
Display Membership Lists - Yes
Limit Membership Lists display to User Groups... - No
Disallow Members Not Logged In To Post As Guests - Yes
Please advise.
I'll send you a PM as well with account details for my forum if it's faster for you check. Thank you!
Kind regards,
Mitko
ah, sorry, I misunderstood your original question. after reading it again, I understand what you are asking.
unfortunately, as it stands now, guests cannot view member lists. to be honest, we probably dont need that limitation since you can control visibility with the option and permissions on the forum.
I will open a ticket to see if we can change that in the next version.
also, by contact members, I assume you mean PM them. yes, guests cannot PM, so to contact members, they would have to register.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. I'm sorry but I don't quite understand what you're saying. You say "guests cannot view member lists" but then you say "we don't need that limitation since you can control visibility". So can I somehow enable guests to view the members list or not? And if not, can you tell me in which files it says what permissions the guests have so I can enable it manually.
I appreciate your time and patience with me.
Kind regards,
Mitko
currently, its hard coded for guests to be unable to view member lists. I have made the code changes in 4.2 to add a new permission and control access tothe member lists via this new permission. core code changes are needed.
The changes I made can be found here but might be more than you want to bite off.
as an alternative, you might search for sfshowmemberlist and try removing any checks for guests. That will just display members lists to everyone though, which might be just fine for you.

it works in our 4.2 dev test sites. keep in mind in those changes, you might be seeing other changes already in 4.2 that might not be applicable to your 4.1.2 install.
If you want everyone to see member lists, might be easier in the interim to simply remove the guest check on that flag I mentioned.

4.2 dev, like all our versions, are maintained in svn. are svn is as http://svn.simplepressforum.com. the 4.2 version is the trunk version.
4.2 is pre alpha and not really ready for a production site. We hope to put it in alpha and start running it on this site in early November. Beta it in early to mid December with release planned for January. NOTE those are planning dates only and subject to change.
