I like the list from Tal - and happy to see many of the requests have been (or being) implemented.
However, I Like to add the following list to your next release [V 5.2? If this is not in the roadmap for 2012, an alternative plugin suggestion would be appreciated]:
(1) Ensure that SP forum works with the responsive Twenty Twelve theme from Automattic (I jut tried this - and some of the forum stuff does not look so good on iPhone)
(2) Failing that, make the Mobile SP theme similar to twenty twelve theme.
(3) Make a Universal Search (that searches both the WP blog site and SP forum (constrained by any group acces). Ideally I like to see this TemplateTags so I can insert the Search on Home page..
(4) Make it easier for posters to add videos / images and youtube link to posts. It will be nice if one SP plugin can allow this to happen for both blog comment posts and forum posts to ensure that editor that the user uses is consistent across the blog commenting system and the forum posting system
This is my quick list from 3 days of playing with SP. Part 2 to follow in a few weeks after my site goes live!
Thanks

In between responding to forum questions I am devoting most of my time to the development of a mobile/responsive theme for SP although we can't give an ETA yet as there is still a long way to go.

It's on the list - just not as straightforward as it sounds. Main issue is performance.

I think it is fair to say that SP is unlikely to get involved in the process of making blog comments. That really does lie outside of our plugin boundary. Also, the way comments are implemented is really a product of the WP theme being used and there are a wide range of differences. Having said that, we do feel that inserting images and things like embedding YouTube videos into forum posts is now fairly simple.

Thanks
Please do.

Thank you for the response. Even if you are not implementing all my wishlist, the fact that you even entering into this discussion shows a lot about your commitment to SimplePress. Thanks!

What third party plugin people normally use across both Blog comments AND SP forum posts to enable easy posting of youtube links, image links and image uploads? I saw your recent News post talk about you releasing your own new TinyMCEEditor. However, I would have thoughtthe media insert would have been outside its scope.
Thanks again.
we always like to hear from our users! its there ideas and care abouts that tend to drive our future enhancements...
not sure I follow the media question... Andy's point was that with wp oembeds, you really just insert the url to the video (ie youtube) and the embedding happens automatically... if you want to upload their own media, then use the file uploader... but perhaps I am just not understanding the point...

I want an Editor that works with SP forum that does the following (without the user having to remember cryptic codes) - in order of priority:
- Allows the user to type in the post with basic formatting (and spell check if possible)
- Allow the user to insert photos hosted elsewhere (e.g. Picasa / Google Plus album - which seems not to be wp oembed compliant)
- Allow the user to insert some sort of Map location (as opposed to just insert a [map][/map]
- Allow the user to insert videos hosted elsewhere (e.g. Google+ video, Youtube etc. )
- Allow Trusted user (i.e. contributor) to upload their images (or galleries) and videos from their hard drive - and the editor compressed it for them and display it.
- Allow social media insert's (not a biggy)
I dont think TinyMCE will do all of the above - are you aware of any third party editor / plugin that will do the above in a SP forum?

Which tinymce will do for you with spell check on browsers that do that (like Firefox).
- Allow the user to insert photos hosted elsewhere (e.g. Picasa / Google Plus album - which seems not to be wp oembed compliant)
Use the image toolbar button for remote images - or - if you have a full image tag just paste it in.
- Allow the user to insert some sort of Map location (as opposed to just insert a [map][/map]
Meaning what?
- Allow the user to insert videos hosted elsewhere (e.g. Google+ video, Youtube etc. )
Most of the more popular video hosting sites are covered by WP oEmbed (as long as the sites themselves support oEmbed of course) so usually just paste in the url to the video
- Allow Trusted user (i.e. contributor) to upload their images (or galleries) and videos from their hard drive - and the editor compressed it for them and display it.
Use the File Uploader plugin. These files are already compressed by the way.
- Allow social media insert's (not a biggy)

As far as I am aware nobody has written an editor plugin for SP apart form the ones we supply. Anyway - which part will TM not do?

Point taken - but please see my PM to you and Steve (and Steve's response to you and me), entitled 'Use of non SP rich Text editor in Forum'.

Bascaly insert a Google map
assume you have another plugin for the map? and that is a valid shortcode? if so, should work fine... assuming you have allowed the shortcode on forum - options - content settings...
