biggest issue is performance...  we have made some headway in that area, so continue to research and there is ongoing discussion, but no commitment at this point..

just potentially a bunch more queries...  and then the data structure model... but think we have made headway on both...

closed source?  simple press is open source... the code is readily available and readable when you download the plugin...  no obfuscation...

I would think it could absolutely be implemented using the API since we have a robust one in place... might be easier in core vice a plugin, but our current thoughts are a plugin so that core is not bloated or slowed down by it for those that dont want it...

If there are folks willing to pay for implementation of custom plugins then yes, that can accelerate development...  as a general rule, we work on things most important to core or in demand by others... there has been some demand for this one, hence the early work on it...  but as I mentioned, no ETA...  if you are interested in 'funding' our development of it, see the custom plugin link in our sidebar...  for something like this, we would likely work it for lower rate than normal since its a larger benefit to the community than some other custom plugins...  if you want to have others consider developing it, then the custom forum can also be used...
