New feature request :Thanks button

A great new feature in simple-press would be a “Thanks” button. Most of the forum softwares have this and it helps one see how helpful has been his post to the others. Also the other members just have to press a Thank button to show that they like the post.

I think it’d not be a difficult feature to add but you guys know better.

I have also thought about this but in a slightly different way. Instead of a ‘Thank You’ button it would be an ‘Answered Post’ button.

It would work so that if someone posted a question and someone else answered it then the original poster could click on the answer and say it ‘answered their post’. When they did so an icon and text would be put next to the answer so others could see it.

Far as a Thanks button then using the ratings may be the way to go.

Well the “Answered” button will be helpful in a support kind of forum like SP where a customer puts in a question and the team replies. However, if you a forum where users participate then “Answered” would seem a bit weird.

Also there are many topics in a forum which are not answers to questions say a sticky with some FAQs and then a Thank  button helps.

The rating option is there but after a user has read an entire topic, he usually doesn’t go back to the forum page and rate the topic. His mind gets diverted to look for other topics. Phbb, vbulletin and most other forum softwares provide both Thanks and rating option

I would put this more in plugin territory than in core as it would have limited appeal. A pretty easy one to construct however.

Great. Do let me know whenever the plugin is up. It’d be good if the number of thanks a person has received shows up in his profile in the post. Something like “Thanked 25 times”

Whoa – slow down there cowboy! Saying it would be best done as a plugin and that it would not be that hard is not quite the same thing as me saying I think I will do this next week. I have a list of tasks to do so long I need a coffee break when I read through it 🙂
