PM system needs formatting

Hi, first the credit: generally speaking, the forum software is brilliantly designed. I certainly preferred this software over PHPBB, Simple Machines, as well as the stillborn BBPress.
Now the single area of a (minor) problem, speaking of 4.0.4: the PM system seems underdesigned - atrophied, as though someone thought it an unimportant area, with (apparent) bugs.
Hope that may be fixed in future editions (if not already in 4.1.
atrophpied, eh? lol. I am unaware of any bugs, but would certainly welcome anything you think is a problem.
PMs are one of the two areas (blog linking being the other) that will be getting an overhaul in 4.2.
