Hi,
Version 5 looks great. You guys have done an excellent job, and I'm excited to have upgraded to it and have made another donation in appreciation of your hard work.
I have a some suggestions for your consideration that I think would enhance usability, mostly to do with quoting.
- Could it be made so that, when clicking the Quote button, if any part of the quoted post is highlighted (e.g. by clicking and dragging the cursor), only the highlighted text gets dumped into the quote? I think this could save editing when you want to only quote a portion of a long post. It could also help keep topic threads more tidy.I think phpBB has this option, and I think it's excellent. Few things bug me as much as seeing a 1000-word post quoted in whole over and over and over again just so a few users can respond to one or two sentences, or worse, to say "LOL."
- Can there be an option to let the users decide which editor will be their default, e.g. BBCode or TinyMCE? I think this would be better for more users, who may be familiar with one but not another, rather than trying to force everyone into one or the other. I am using BuddyPress to handle user profiles, so I'm not sure where this option would be located. I've seen other forums with a similar option.
- I think it would be good to let users set the default number of posts per page from a drop-down menu - e.g. 20 per page, 40, 60, 80. I think vBulletin has a similar feature.
- Can there be an option to place the quoted user's name within the quote box? Personal preference. I find it makes quoting a little more coherent, visually.
- While editing a post, using the quote feature in TinyMCE distinguishes quoted text from the rest of the post simply with an indent. I know you guys didn't make TinyMCE, but I'm wondering if your plugin could be made so that there's either a slight background color change for the quote block, or perhaps a vertical line along the left border of the quote block.
Well, that's it for now. I know you're a small team with a lot on your plate, but I think you've done a superb job regardless, and I look forward to more good things from you guys.
Thank you
#1 we have talked about this... but no firm plans yet...
#2 this is already how it works... if you have all the editor plugins activate, on their sp profile, users can select the editor they want to use...
#3 forum - options- global settings is where you select the number of topics or posts per page... it is global and not user based... we can consider it later... however, the more you put, the more strain it will put on your server as the queries end up taking more time...
#4 not sure I understand... when you quote a post now, it puts the name of the user you quoted in it..
#5 assume you mean horizontal line... we used to have that and everyone hated it... was removed by popular demand... but its simple css that can be added to any sp theme to add a background or border to the quoted text...
looking forward to the donation! thanks!

Thank you for your prompt response.
To clarify:
#1 This is the most important option to me. If I were making only one request, I think that would be it. I do hope it makes its way into an update.
#2 I guess my problem then is that I'm hiding the SP profile page, redirecting to the BuddyPress profile page. I see there are other useful options I am missing as well. Is there good way to put those options into the BuddyPress profile? Perhaps I should make both profiles available, and do what I can to eliminate any system conflicts and user confusion that may arise...
#4 Right now the user name does get quoted, but outside the quote bubble.
I want it inside the quote bubble. Is this simply part of the theme, or part of the way quoting is done?
# 5 I mean a vertical line. Also, I am referring to within the TinyMCE editor, not within the submitted post.
Example: or shaded
Is this a part of the TinyMCE package independent of your packaging of it? If so, I'll pursue this with them.
Thanks!
#4 will be in the next update.
#5 is a matter of changeing or adding to the tinyMCE editor CSS. If you go to the editor plugin and dive into the tinymce/themes tree, at the end you will find 5 CSS files. content.css controls the editor window content at edit time

I might be way of track here but I am pretty sure the last time I looked - and for this very purpose - there were problems associated with grabbing selected content in a browser using javascript. But if anyone knows a good and standard way to do it then please do post it here.

Any news/updates on issue #1.
It is extremely kludgy to constantly seeing comments with paragraphs of text being repeated in replies.
Perhaps you could just have a "reply with quote" and a "reply without quote" which just simply puts their name and first line of their post.
...just a suggestion.
afraid nothing has been done to add that new feature yet...

I created my own work around to limit the text in the quoted reply.
See it working here: http://www.drjoshuacoleman.com.....-birthday/
See button "Quick Reply"
It was pretty simple to accomplish...let me know if anyone wants this work around.
