First of all, thnx for this great plugin for WP!

Really nice forum, won't fuck up with WP and work lovely... But! after some work with it, there is a few featueres that I miss...

It may be me being a noob and can't find, but I can't see it so far...

I miss the two features to make new topics (new posts):

- Sticky (getting to top wheter they are new or old)

- Annoucement (top of sticky, always on top)

If those two featueres could be added in a soon release, that would be great! 🙂

But thx for it so far

Rgz

Well... I am not sure what the difference is between a 'sticky' and an 'announcement' as they both want to be held at the top of the list but - in SPF we call it 'pinning'. Check out the admin tools in the online help (left hand column).

Thnx for your fast reply…

Well, dunno what the differences is, but would still be nice to have announcement to make announcement and sticky to mark interessting postes.

Anyways, I'm running on a danish translation, looked in

Under the admin tools in th eonline help file, but still can't see those spots they talk about:

  • Lock Topic: This tool will toggle a lock on and off for the selected topic. Locking a topic will prevent any member of guest being able to make new posts to that topic. The Admin will always be able to create new posts however
  • Pin Topic: Also known on some forum systems as 'sticky'. Toggling on the Pin will ensure that the selected topic always remains at the top of the forums topic index.
  • Edit Topic Title: Allows for editing of the topic title and, if necessary, the topic slug. The slug should ONLY ever be changed if the topic has a problem displaying correctly due to odd characters in the slug.
  • Change Topic Status: Allows the admin to change the status of a topic if topic status sets are being used.
  • Change Sort Order: The default sort order for all topics is set in the Forum > Manage Options > Topics tab. This admin tool can be used to reverse the sort order of posts for the selected topic only.
  • Delete Topic: Deleting a topic will remove it and all of it's posts from the system. This action can not be reversed.
  • Move Topic: Allows the user to move this topic to a different forum. When clicked, the 'move topic' form will be displayed.
  • Break Link: This tool only appears if the forum topic is linked to a blog post and it allows for that linkage to be broken. No content is removed – but the link relationship between the blog post and forum topic is destroyed.
  • View Topic Properties: Information and ID's of the Topic

Can you help me?

Have enabled the "Admin Tool icons" on global admin setup

It depends on what icon set your are using and whether you are at the forum level or topic level…  but you will see a computer or wrench icon by the forum or topic… click on it and the list of tools will expand…

for announcements, why not just use the custom messages?  you can set these for forums or topics in forum – components – custom messages…  seem tailor made for your announcements…

I'm back again, found the "pin", it was icon of a paperclip, who should guess that? 😛

Well, anyways, I'm back cuz I found the differences between sticky and announcement.

Sticky is getting to top, as the "pin" function.

Announcement are ALWAYS on top of stickys, so extra important infomations can be announcements. Are there a similar function?

guess I still struggle with the difference... no, not any equivalent type function... you might be able to use the spf program hooks (documented in the online help in your spf admin area) to do this, but it would require some php writing and knowledge of which posts you wanted to make appear above pinned topics...

There is a new feature coming in 4.1 that enables you to place a forum level message area at the top of the topic listing so this might do what you want.

An announcement should be pinned to the very top of each forum automatically - at least, that's the way I've seen announcements used before

That's what the 'pin' is for - which can pin a topic at the top of the list and keep it there.

The new 'message box' which can be used for anything sits above the topic list on all pages of the listing, is optional but is not a topic - just a message area.
