Been browsing around the forum and have come up with some ideas for the future of simple:press - they may or may not be possible, but I figured I'd at least see what the stance is on these ideas.
- Hot/Popular topic option - Currently we have icons for new posts and no new posts wondering if there's the possibility of adding a new one for a hot topic defined by the admin at a certain post count?
- Image compression - we can tell people all we want to upload images at a certain file size and certain dimension, but it'd be so much cooler to allow simple press to compress the file upon upload to a pre-determined file size.
- Ability to sort users by post count - I'd love to be able to order users on the admin side by post count/recent post date. This would help in determining who the most active members are and if a formerly active member has gone dormant.
- Date for Most Users Online? - Just wondering if we could add a date to this number to see how recently the forum has been at it's peak?
I'm sure there's more things that will come to mind - I love the idea of customization and adding new features so there's always more things that pass through my head.

- There is a 'Featured Topic/Post' plugin that I have never myself used but I believe it allows you to nominate topics and/or posts that are - as you call it - hot - which has a temp,ate tag or two associated with it. Perhaps you might like to look it up on the codex here http://codex.simple-press.com/.....e-plugins/ to see if that comes close to the suggestion....
- I think we do have this earmarked as a possibility. One of the main problems is the max size of the upload set by the php environment and the server. This is most commonly 2MB which - when you consider the size of photos coming from today's mobile phones - is rather small. This means the upload attempt would fail even before any code could start to optimise and compress an image further. But leaving that constraint aside then it should be possible.
- Sounds like an interesting one which we have not catered for and would probably fit in the current user listing panel. I have made a note of that.
- Again - i can see some might like that. Added this to the list as well!

worth adding on #1, we have a template tags plugin too and one of the tags is a hot topics tag... wont add icon, but will generate a list of hot topics for display on page, sidebar, etc...
and on number 3, on forum - components - file uploads, you can set a compression (quality) ratio to reduce the file size... only applies to images resized though... so if image is too big dimension wise or file size wise, you can scale it..
