Someone contacted me recently saying she couldn't post on our forums due to the animated avatars people use bothering her eyes and i was thinking it'd be great to have an option for users with vision issues or bandwidth issues to be able to turn off avatars - when I was thinking about it I thought one option would be for users to be able to change styles, you could set the avatar style on a "no avs style" to display:none

you can obviously do this globally for your site... but I can open a ticket for user by user options for consideration in a future version...

thanks - it'd be very useful for individual users to be able to do this, also good I would imagine for people who use mobile devices
