Hi guys
I'm considering having a skin developed for my installation of Simple:Press, but I'm a bit reluctant because I've noticed that you'll probably soon be releasing version 5.
So my question is this, will there be compatibility between version 4 and 5 skins? And if not, when is version 5 due (I might postpone my skin project).

We are hoping we can get V5 out late summer although we anticipate quite a long beta cycle prior to that.
We are switching from 'skins' to 'themes' with V5 and while we would have liked to I am afraid there is no way they can be compatible.

Heh heh... I've been buried in SP code working on our new layout. I've plugged and replugged keeping the core clean. And you're saying it won't be compatible?? *Gulp*
P.S. Could bigger layout functions like "function sf_render_topic()" be pluggable in v.5? Or will layout be determined by the creators template?

layout will be determined by the theme (ie template)... it will be more like wp themes... a bunch of template tags you call to do what you want, when you want...
sf_render_topic() will be but a distant memory...
sorry, but skins will not be upgradeable to themes... too many differences...
If all goes right, and DO NOT quote me on this, but hoping to make a call for some theme devs to begin playing with the theme api as soon as June... Andy, look away quick, before you read this
