Hi,

I just updated to 5.6. Everything seems okay and working from my quick check on desktop and mobile. I'm using a child theme for Reboot. Does a child theme constitute a custom theme?

I'm just assuming I need to do a find/replace of all the functions listed on here (https://simple-press.com/docum.....tes-5-6-0/) in my child theme files (or parent theme if not used in child theme) to make sure it is up to date?

No child themes and custom themes are different...   custom themes are stand alone...  child themes inherit the parent stuff...  so generally child themes will be fine and wont need changes on that page unless you explicitly customized that exact css already in your child theme...

I have no idea what all the %%%marker%%% business is but on the odd occasion that we see the upgrade aborting it is always down to a component in the website either hijacking the AJAX call and returning unexpected data (perhaps like this %%%marker%%%) or a general javascript conflict causing it to fail. If you run it again with the browser console tools open looking for errors you may be able to determine thw culprit.
