still working 5.8, but getting close to Aug…  still debating what to do with it… think the current thinking is pop out a beta version here in next week or two…  we believe its done and pretty heavily tested – at least core…  more testing of the plugins would be needed before final release, hence the beta…

we have also blasted a news item to the dashboard about the upcoming retirement…

no good news to report on someone taking over simple press..  exploring alternate methods there too for getting the word into different venues…

know any developers looking to pick up some sw? 😉

Here is a question for worst case scenario. Let’s say you don’t find anyone to take SP over. That’s a possibility I would need to prepare for well in advance, since SP is a major part of my business.

So…if I had to find another forum software, is there a software you could recommend where I could import the entire SP forum into without a major tech nightmare?

many wp forum plugins in the past have had importers for simple press…  unfortunately, I have not checked recently… but wp forum, bbpress and others have had importers… additionally, gconverters can import into many diff sw forums…

hopefully, we can make it a non issue and have someone pick it up…

Although this isn’t pretty, every forum package out there seems to support conversion from BuddyPress, and BuddyPress does have a SimplePress importer, so you could go from SimplePress to BuddyPress to something else…

Sadly that I had to investigate and test that….

Do you have any contingency plans should the worst happen to leave the forum in place for an extended period of time to allow current users to have access to previous topics and solutions to their problems?

We had certainly hoped to have someone lined up to carry Simple:Press forward by this time now… So frankly, we do not…  We have begun having those kind of discussions right now since we do need to address it soon given the current situation…

We have had multiple discussions with a couple of potentials in the last week but nothing to report there either…

We already know that we will keep the domain active through at least the end of the year…  And I cant imagine the forums would just disappear or some sort of downloads wouldnt be available, but I just cant make any promises at this point…

I would expect us to start flowing out worst case scenario information in the  next week or two…  Sorry and thanks for sticking with us through the years…

This is sad. Less than a year after spending the money on the plugin bundle and we’re going to be SOL. I suppose I should have paid closer attention. We decided that sooner rather than later was the time to find a replacement. 🙁  There is no replacement, really, so we will have to settle for less than.

I have to reiterate what I said some time earlier.

Just because we are closing down further development and support membership does not mean tha the plugin stops working on that day. The last main update we released was back in March 2017 – that is way over a year ago. There are few reasons anything should change in the coming year.

The main problem would be a major change in WordPress. Both of us here will be on the lookout for that as we both use SP on other websites. I will say now that if I find something I will try and fix it and publish that fix. But we will not be runnng the support forum or developing new features.

And we still very much hope to find someone/team to take it over.

Hi there, I just sent a contact form and I am interested in taking over the plugin development. Let me know if you are still interested.

Cheers

If you sent us a contact form, we have sent a first round email back and will get more details out likely on Saturday..  thanks!

For those following along, we posted over at WP Tavern about someone adopting Simple Press (https://wptavern.com/simplepress-forum-plugin-is-up-for-adoption) and have received a large amount of replies..  Good news for continuation…

More to come…

Speaking as a gold subscriber – may I suggest you consider opening up all the forums for now until a transition is over. Subscriptions for most of us have expired in the last few weeks, and keeping open lines of communications in all forums (for now), even if technical support, would go a long way to showing that their is live continuing on.

Keeps people from getting a circle of, I need some support, but I can’t buy support, (lather, rinse, repeat).

how to handle is being discussed…  will also be a discussion point with the potential new developers we are talking to..   thanks for the input!

Even if not to give support but for at least everyone to see the ongoing communications until such time that a new developer puts in place their support rules/fees, etc.
