Support Forum
I have to note that I too struggled with this issue for a few weeks. I could not manage to trigger an error in my error log that would point to this issue. Nonetheless, after the recent SP update, the issue just disappeared. There were no changes made to my website (i.e. plug-in, code, etc.) changes from when these buttons were last broken to when it started working with the exception of performing the SP update today.
Whatever the case was, if my theme or existing plug-ins were the culprit, then I cannot explain why the issue has resolved itself when the only variable that changed is the SP update. One would logically point to the SP plug-in as the culprit in the scenario, but it may have likely been a combination of it and something existing on my site. That said, I hope this helps Papa & SF understand how and if any of the changes made in this recent SP update may answer why some have run into this particular null script issue with the previous SP version.
as mentioned in the support forums, we had a handful of users that ran into problems with wp 4.1 and the pretty checkboxes js we used... a very, very small percentage of users, but a handful of new issues with wp release causes reflection...
so in sp 5.5.4, at least in our themes, we have removed the js for this and have gone to an all css solution for pretty checkboxes...
so its possible this was your issue too...

Hello !
Same problem with Reply and Add Topic buttons. They work just if log in with Moderator privileges.
I tried the php file modification and didn't fix it.
Forum theme is css-only 1.2.13 (with Default 1.2.13 layout goes crazy )
My theme is a theme child from DIVI, and this is the list of active plugins.
I uploaded the other Simple-press pluggns manually. Can it create the problem?
This is the website forum and you can log in as : guest pass: 1 (this user has full access) to see what happens.
Thanks !!

I reinstalled and got this message at the end of the installation process:
[Storage location part 1 ownership failed] - We were unable to create your folders with the correct server ownership and these will need to be manually changed: /problem-with-post-edit-buttonomepages/14/d399194279/problem-with-post-edit-buttontdocs/app557576332/wp-content/sp-resources
This is what I have in the server:
What folders should I create? and under what path? (I am using Filezilla)
UPDATE: Interesting... without any of the plugins from Simple:press, it works perfect (rest of WP plugins listed in my previous post remain active). Maybe one of the S.Press plugins is not compatible with the other stuff I have installed?
generally, needs to match the wp-content permissions... be sure to check uid and gid too...
for more detailed help, please open a topic in the support forum as this going beyond pre membership query...
