Broken Re-installation

Hi Team - I understand this is a support topic - But I haven't been able to get everything working inside my new web environment to find out whether Simple:Press is going to work for my website or not. edit: I had it installed for a while about a year ago.

On re-installation, the first thing it did was ask me to upgrade it to a new major version release with a different build number.
The Forum control panel is there and I changed the forum slug to a testing page.
The errors are all becauseof a complete lack of files in the wpcontent\sp-recources (why is it recourses not resources?) folder. The entire theme css and php file structure is simple missing in action.

I have the following errors

  • Either the theme CSS file and/or color Overlay file from the selected theme is missing
  • January 1, 2016 5:46 pm | spaErrWarning | 2 | php

    file: /simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-plugins.php
    line: 59
    function: opendir
Warning | opendir(/var/www/vhosts/beatmania.co.nz/httpdocs/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory

Now I have no idea what's gone wrong. At the beginning of last year when I looked around for alternative forum products, the Simple:Press directory on my webhost remained untouched but the plug-in un-installed.
The only possible cause would be me runngin wp-sweep - but that's unlikely.
I'm a little stuck here. I was thinking of setting up an offline wordpress installation on my pc and copying over the missing files, but i was hoping there was an easier solution than that?

Also, Happy new year! (I believe it's probably near midnight when I post this :))

Hey BeatmaniaNZ,

I'm not sure what the reference to 'sp-recources' is about, where did you see it referred to as 'recources'? Underneath the theme notice is a warning that includes a file path which clearly addresses it as 'resources'. Could you manually double check the folder name and contents? I think that's the first thing to check. If it's all there but has been renamed for some reason you should be able to fix it by correcting the folder name.

If the folder is there but empty for some reason, the best thing to do would be to download a new version of the core plugin, open the zip and look through the folders for the sp-resources installs. You can find them inside the core plugin zip under:

simple-press.zip > simple-press > sp-startup > install

Extract both the sp-resources-install-part1.zip and sp-resources-install-part2.zip locally, and put all the extracted sp-resources content inside your sp-resources folder on your live site via FTP.

Hi Ike - and thanks for your help thus far. - And problem solved too (but when you pop one wart, you get three.....)

Just to clarify something  ‘sp-recources’ popped up as part of an error message in the forum settings. I haven't been able to reproduce it either, so I'll assume it's an internal typo 🙂

I have been able to fix it by re-uploading the missing content via FTP from the simple-press core installation zipfile - But if the folders were empty and files weren't replaced if missing, then why? I would have thought a re-installation of the plug-in would have solved this? which Is why I turned here in the first place 🙂

Now I have a new set of problems - Yay! It's using the database from my old site (or maybe the main WP Sql DB). How can I re-sync simple-press with the current amount of registered users (97 vs 743) and various other things are completely out of date?

The importer plugin installed successfully through the wordpress plugin uploader/installer but then I need an empty forum as per the err below.
Unable to Import: Your Simple:Press forum already contains data
This importer requires a new and empty Simple:Press installation

How can I completely axe anything I have in the old SImple:Press forum DB and start fresh?

I don't know where you can be getting ‘sp-recources’ from either. It's not a typo in our codebase thats for sure...

If what you would like to do is remove all old data from the old forum and basically start again then all you to do is uninstall it. That's uninstall using the option on the forum admin > toolbox > uninstall or - in fact - from the WordPress plugin listing. Selecting the option to remove all data will take put the sp-resources content (if any) as well - like uploaded images, avatars etc.

Then when uninstalled - just re-activate and install again from the forum menu.

Hiya again D:

Stuggling, really struggling and don't know why. I got what I thought was things working but I was unable to post. Add Topic and add-reply did nothing.

I have since done another clean install - there is no change. As the only admin, I can perform no action as if i have no access or something.
All storage locations are valid and everything seems OK

Might need to pay you for premium support at this rate 🙁 *cry

its likely because your site is improperly loading an offsite jquery and jquery ui instead of using the versions that come with WP...  of course, the WP devs greatly frown on that...

see these in your head tags:

<script type='text/javascript' src='//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.0/jquery.min.js'></script>

and

<script type='text/javascript' src='//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.4/jquery-ui.min.js?ver=4421ed263f8be45805ce599d70feb76a'></script>

its likely your wp theme (quick test would be to switch to default wp them)... but you will need to sort that non standard loading of jquery and jquery ui...

more info, see:  https://simple-press.com/docum.....-conflict/

As always, thanks for your replies and help thus far 🙂

I changed the theme to an alternative and accessed the forums again. Obviously new groups and forums appear as expected, but the "Add Topic" button continues to taunt me with it's non-functional-ness >_>

I have contacted my theme author (I am using Catch Responsive Pro) and have basically quoted everything that was said above.

If he changes the jQuery UI and jQuery to load from my own server and this doesn't fix the issue, then where to from here?

(I'm going to do the plugin walk shortly. I'll see if a plugin is causing any issues.)

Edit: OH THE IRONY!!! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

The last plug-in walk revealed a Plug-in for bbPress that I'm trying to move on from was the direct cause of not only this 'Add Topic' button issue but another issue with the featured slider not loading correctly either.

Save me simplepress! lol

┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻

So am I right in taking from that - You've found the cause of the problem and it's a plugin you were going to get rid of anyway?

Yes Ike, Exactly 🙂

Thats what I hate about bbPress. Every single additional function beit quoting a post or attaching an image requires a plugin =|
