I'm very interested in a Simple-Press purchase. However, a crucial feature for our usage would be creating forums via the API - I've browsed through the documentation, but it's a little on the scant side (lol!) and doesn't seem to mention a specific hook that would permit this. Please could you very kindly point me in the right direction to have a read-up about this?

We don't have a formal API for creating and managing forums the way you've described. There are things you can do and hook into after a forum is created but things like creating the forum, deleting it or locking them - those aren't really part of any api or hook.

We are a new team behind Simple:Press and we are trying our best to get up to speed on everything. I have not had time to look at the API-part of Simple:Press yet. But I had a quick look at it.
From what I understand you are looking for an api that allows you to post or insert data. The functions listed are the ones fired during Simple:Press execution in WordPress. The name API might be a bit missleading.
The functions listed can be used to intercept and act on different functions in WP but not to trigger creation of forum group, topics or replies.
