Since I'm working on a test site, while I'm waiting on that other issue to be answered, I'm going ahead and seeing if I can get the importer to work. I've installed it and I'm trying to choose "(Newer plugin version)" but when I choose that it takes me to a page that says "(Older separate site version)" and asks me to fill out all of the information.
When I choose the radio button next to "(Older separate site version)" instead, it appears to take me to the same page.
The bbPress forums I am attempting to import are in the same database, same web address.
you still need to put in the needed db info, whether standalone or plugin version... we cannot absolutely know that info...

Yes, I understand that, but it's confusing because we are given several choices, the top two being:
o bbPress (Newer plugin version)
o bbPress (Older separate site version)
Yet no matter which you choose you are taken to the same page. It causes confusion and distress to the already hesitant and wary forum tester, and could discourage people from moving further past that point. Many times have I reached a point like that with plugins and simply deleted them, because it wasn't clear at that point what I should do.
Fortunately, against my better judgement, I moved forward with the conversion anyway, and things seemed to go without a hitch.
I'm very pleased with how easy it is to rearrange the forums once they are all imported, with the drag and drop. I also like that your existing bbPress is still there, to refer back to and also to know it's there if everything doesn't work out the way you want it to with the new forums.
Another thing I was surprised and please with is how the importer converted all my smileys to images! So all my smileys are still there. That is a very cool added touch, and one I did not get coming to bbPress from phpBB3.
So now I'm going to be brave and try it on my live site. I've got everything backed up, so we'll see how it goes.
okay, good luck! should be fine...

I have to second the confusion caused by the two bbpress options taking one to the same page. The info asked for doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Is the bbpress database name my wordpress database name? (using the bbpress plugin for wordpress) - the database name from my phpmyadmin? Like blah_blah_blah?
If so, my wordpress database username and password is the bbpress database username and password?
The host would be localhost
The bbpress table prefix would be my wordpress posts table prefix? so for me, cms_posts ?
My wordpress user table prefix -- would be cms_users ?
I've tried those but I keep getting "Error: Unable to query USERS using the db settings supplied" So I'm obviously doing something wrong.
Before you say this is not a presales question, it's pretty important to me to be able to import my current bbpress forum, so if I cannot do that, then there will be no reason for me to get any of the plugins. If I can, this is the best thing since sliced bread for me, so I will for sure be signing up.
Thanks for any help.
Forget my question, but please do fix that page to reflect the actual process. It's WAAAAAY to confusing the way it is.
I played around and finally tried cms_ for both the bbpress table prefex and wordpress user table prefix.
That works fine, but I really shouldn't have had to play around like that with so much uncertainty! How hard would it be for someone there to update the instructions on the bbpress-plugin.php????
Other than that, thanks for the great forum option!
I had just spent 10 minutes looking at the code when you posted your follow up. I rather think the code has been changed but we may have missed updating the download file.
I will open a bug ticket on it now to get it all checked out and sorry you had that problem.
