Support Forum
Hello, my wordpress is my blog, my virtual home.
I have a few thousand readers that pop in to stay updated with what I have there, and I wanted an easy forum that will be integrated with my website.
The Data Importarter, what exactly does it do?
Does it import posts, images, AND user profiles from my IPB (hosted at the same server) to SimplePress? Or do my users have to register all over again? My IPB forum has a bit over a hundred members, and their contributions are dear. But the InvisionBoard takes a huge toll on my monthly hosting cost, and considering our relative small user-base, it's not worth it. This would make it so much easier, considering all the features simplepress offers.
Also, if my userbase grows large enough, is importing from SimplePress back to IPB just as easy ?
Thank you.
As I am sure you will understand and, for obvious reasons, IPB is one of the more obscure imports we get asked to support and this particular import script was actually supplied by a user - although they did claim a successful import at the time and, I believe, it has been used by others since.
But it does mean that it may fail to keep abreast of IPB changes as none of us own a copy and I believe IPB like to change their stuff from time to time - quite dramatically!
If it works out OK it will bring across forums, topics, posts and users but not attachments. However, if they are on the same server it may well be that the lirks to them are intact although i am really unsure how IPB stores the urls to attachments.
But the bottom line is that it is free and quick to try and it wont hurt the current IPB installation. We do not offer exports to other forums - now that would be an unusual thing to do! But these people might.

So there is no way to use a demo to try it?
I don't really have $30 lying around just for it to fail (the import).
Thanks!
demo it?? As Andy said, the core simple press plugin is free and the importer is free... so nothing to pay $30 for...

Can you change the size of avatars with SimplePress? or does it have to be small? Can I set it to be f.ex: 100x150?
I am going to sign up anyway to enjoy other features, just gotta make sure I can do the basics,
this is by far better than bbpress that I tried.
One more thing, the importer.
Invision Database Name: is this the website's url? (the IPB that I am using)
Database host: I use Bluehost, do I just write bluehost.com?
avatar size can be whatever you want... of course, if you make it very large, you may have to adjust your column widths for it to fit...
Its as it says, the database name... the name of your mysql database holding your IPB data... if you dont know it, you can find it in the config file for IPB... same for the host, though its likely localhost...

Thank you.
I tried installing SimplePress but I ran into a few errors, one in particularly that was extremely annoying. But I guessed there's a setting that I am missing.
1. The menu bar stacks on top of each other, Like

Topic.
Unlike the forum you've got here, it is Home > Support Forum > Pre Membership.
This way my forum menus look a lot smaller, and is hard to notice at first.
The second issue I noticed, I can not create any new thread? Even as an Admin, I click "add topic", nothing happens. I have the same issue when trying to upload an avatar, I click "browse" nothing happens. It's like I am clicking a blank spot of my screen, and I do have upload enabled.
So then I went to enable remote avatar, and when I then enter the avatar area, its all plain text, there's no images or anything, it looks like a html code all over the screen, and after I entered the remote url, I get a blank screen that says "success". There's no auto-referring back to profile, or "ok" button, I actually have to click "back" until I end up at the forum, then refresh.
