Support Forum
I installed the core to test it out, however there are still a few things I would like to be certain about before buying a membership:
1- Can I / how do I assign a specific moderator to a specific forum?
2- Is it possible to archive (not remove) old posts? I couldn't find that feature in the backend?
3 - From time to time our admin or moderator must be able to post a message in a forum, whereby an email-notification should be sent to all (group)members of that forum. Is there a way to do that (a plugin?)
Thanks & regards,
Erik
Yes to question 1 - but not currently to question 2 although it is in our future plans.
Number 3 would require our Subscriptions plugin and allowing for subscriptions to forums. It is possible to set it up so that all new registrants automatically get an email when a new post arrives in a topic they are active in - but if you want forum level subscriptions - which we can do - then that would require them to opt in.

Thank you. Glad to hear we can assign moderators to specific forums!
A little more explanation about point 3:
When our moderator posts a new message, we want him to be able to choose whether or not all members/groups that have access to that particular forum should be notified (by email) of his post. So it's not an opt-in from the members' perspective. But that's OK since we have a small, coherent community and only use 'private' forums: all members EXPECT to be notified when the moderator posts these messages.
It's just that we want this "push"-functionality to work for moderators/admins only. For receiving notofications of other posts this should be a normal opt-in and for the members to decide.
I assume that this feature is not supported right now. Would it be hard to implement/develop?
Regards,
Erik
Well as Andy said the closest we offer is a user receiving automatic subscription to a topic they post in and even that can be frowned upon! Although it seems like a very private and tight knit forum could make good use of such a feature, some would almost definitely misuse it. I'm afraid we will have to wait for Yellow Swordfish or Mr Papa to answer further.
Another option that might work for you is our Private Messaging plugin. This allows for an admin to send a message to all members in specific user groups,,,
@mr-papa who knows more about subscriptions than any of us might want to respond on how difficult it would be to cater for such sub-groups

using our API, it is certainly possible and quite feasible to add a new multiselect menu to the new topic or reply post form... the multiselect could be shown only to users with permission to notify on post (new permission)... the multiselect would list any usergroup with access to the forum its being posted in... when posted, it could then send a notification email to users of the selected usergroups (0, 1 or many)...
this currently does not exist, but could be written into a plugin without too much difficulty...

Thank you all !! Sounds good, looks like Simple:press is the right forum for us.
@mrPapa - I'll get back to you if we need help to develop that functionality (we probably will, but I'll first take a look at the API).
Thanks & regards,
Erik
Hi my first message on this Forum! ... the functionality mentioned by Eric is of importance for me as well. I want to use Simple:Press for projects that last a few days to a few weeks for rather small groups. Sometimes it is important to explain some issues to all users without delay (maybe when there is some confusion). Of course this can only be used by the moderator (or admin). There is probably also an option for this to work with a separate plugin through WP however I have not yet investigated.
