Hi,
Please can you inform me how Simple:Press can work as multilingual forum. Is there a possibility to set up two different forums for two domains in directories? Or it works on other way?
Thanks
Regards
Hey Daldin,
Not sure what you mean by directories, but If you are referring to multi-site then yes it's possible, we have a lot of users who successfully run Simple:Press on multi sites.
Language files for Simple:Press are community generated through our GlotPress site (see 'Your Language') from the 6 tiles at the top of the sidebar)
We also have a plugin available called 'Theme and Language Switcher' which embeds a drop down in the forum footer, and allows you and front end users to switch forum languages on the fly, depending on which language files you have installed.
Hi Ike,
Thank you for your answer.
I have not meant on multi sites but one domain with languages in directories. Eg. ‘site_name.com/de/’ and ‘site_name.com/en/’. There is ‘Language Switcher’ between languages. Is it possible that every language has own forum that works independently?
In your variant with ‘Theme and Language Switcher’, as I understand, there is one forum with possibility to switch languages. Does it mean that forum works independently for one particular selected language?
Thanks

Ah, thank you for explaining..
No, the forum works dynamically on one page. The 'Language and Theme Selector' allows you to switch between languages dynamically within the same forum. So within that one forum, one user might use English, whereas another might use French etc.. but it will still be the same forum.
It's not possible to have more than one forum per WordPress install unfortunately.
I am not actually aware of any forum plugin for WP that will cater for multi-lingual post content but that effect could be simulated with SP and the use of user groups and access control so that any particular grouping of users only has access to certain forums.

But this would require additional coding, wouldn't it? How could I create a user group which detects the currently selected language? We would need the forum to detect whether a user belongs to one user group (and therefore display for example English) or to another user group (and therefore display for example German). Do you have any solution for this?
Agreed there is no automatic method. You would need to use our language selection plugin and allow the users to select their own language option. Plus it must be remembered, of course, that this only changes the language used by the forum for labels, buttons, tooltips etc., There is no way to automatically translate post content.
We could certainly consider adding an automatic language switcher to user groups. It is an interesting proposition even if a minority requirement...
