Support Forum
Hi guys,
A long time ago, I ran a S:P forum for Dutch people wanting to sail around the world. Different account, but I can't remember that logon to save my life, sorry ...
Anyway, setting up a new site now, and I installed S:P again. Yay!
Except ... I purchased ThemeCo's X theme (http://theme.co/x/) and it looks like S:P and X don't play nice together.
I've posted on their support forum, but was told to look for a solution here. I have a sneaky suspicion you guys will (rightfully) tell me to go back to ThemeCo, but meanwhile I just want to know if I can use S:P with X theme before I pay the membership fee, if at all possible.
I'll copy/paste what I posted on the X support forum:
"After installing S:P in X, something weird happens when a page is left open for a while. See screenshots. The frontpage elements find their way to the forum page O.o
I’m thinking it’s a Cornerstone issue, but I’m not sure. It takes long, boring minutes of staring at the screen before it happens, and than it just goes haywire.
Also, the menu shows the breadcrumbs – NOT supposed to do that, see 2nd screenshot. The menu link is /forum/, and that should be it.
I’ve tinkered with all the integration options, tried both the php and css theme etc. etc. but nada. I’ve also taken out most of my custom css and even theme functions, but still no joy."
Again, I understand you can't provide support before I return as a full member, and that is more than fair enough.
But I would like to know -if possible of course- if S:P and X theme (and their Cornerstone plugin, which is unavoidable) can work together. If not, I'll have to rethink my plans and either waste a theme license or find another solution for the forum. Don't really want to do either 😉
Thanks for any advice you can provide at this point!
- Marti
Hey Martine,
It's tough to diagnose something without seeing it for ourselves. Looking back through the forum I can't find any references to 'Cornerstone' and only references to x theme are generally unrelated by the look of things.
Your last paragraph posted to them, was that in reference to Simple:Press? I don't remember ever seeing breadcrumbs appearing in the nav menu but I'm sure that one could be resolved either with SP integration options or just by creating a plain link nav menu entry with a URL to the forum page. Again - not sure without seeing it and trying things out.
As for the main problem, really not sure - guess you have tried all of the SP integration options. I really wouldn't like to promise that it's something we can help you to fix. It really does look as you've said to be down to the theme authors to resolve.
That being said, we will always do everything we can to get things working. Sorry we can't be more specific!
Thank you so much for your quick response, Ike!
I completely understand.
This is all ThemeCo is willing to say - a canned reply 😉
"Thanks for writing in! It sounds like you might be having an issue with a third party plugin or script. Regretfully, we cannot provide support for third party plugins or scripts as our support policy in the sidebar states due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script. Because of this, any questions you have regarding setup, integration, or troubleshooting any piece of functionality that is not native to X will need to be directed to the original developer.
Thank you for your understanding."
And I do understand their point of view as well - but since Cornerstone (https://theme.co/cornerstone/), more and more plugins have issues and since the theme won't work without it installed and activated, I'm stuck 😉
Edit: and it's definately a Cornerstone issue: only if I delete that plugin, everything is fine. As soon as it's activated, this problem occurs (even if not using X, just having it activated does the trick, which I don't understand at all to be honest).
I'll have to rethink what to do next. The website needs a decent forum, and for me that means S:P, not bbPress (which only works out of the box with X ...). Looks like I'll have to save up some money for a better theme 😉
Thanks again for responding so fast (and far more willing to help ;)), I'll go have a think and hope to be back soon as a full member with a theme that's far less limiting 🙂
If it happens every 2-3 minutes or so then try this... forum admin > options > Global Settings - turn OFF the option to use AutoUpdate... It is possible - just possible - that your theme is interfering with that causing the rather odd display. Worth a try anyway...

I've unchecked auto refresh and have been staring at a pretty looking forum page for at least 15 minutes now 😉
Looks like it actually IS the auto-refresh!
I would never have thought of that, though the fact that it only happened after leaving the site open for a couple of minutes should have made me think twice.
Thank you so much!! You guys keep amazing me with your more that outstanding support and willingness to help people.
I'll go ahead now and see if adding the forumlink to the menu manually fixes that issue, and I'll be ready to go hunt down my old account info and revive it 🙂
