Would anyone be able to take a look at http://www.themusicmagazine.co.uk/forum and let me know what I'm doing wrong? Every second post or group displays in italics, and nothing is lined up correctly. It's driving me mad!

Did you look in the onine help on 'Theme problems'?
All of this is caused by your theme or, possibly, other plugins CSS files in conflict with the forum CSS.
The alternating italics is caused by the .alt class in the 'compressed.css' file. Somewhere in all those CSS files you have loaded something is painting a light grey border around table cells. Whataver is doing that is probably also responsible for adding a lot of extra padding at the bottom of all tables. Your images are also being 'floated: left'.
And, as you are using graphic buttons within te foirum it would also be worth your while going into the Options > Style tab and turning off the redundant icon text.

Thanks for the reply. I've sorted the italics problem, but I'm at a loss as to what could be causing the other problems. I know a bit of CSS, but not enough to try and identify what's causing these problems - do you have any ideas at all?

You know, I think of you actually start looking you may well find it. It is pretty obvious.
The table bottom margin is set in compressed.css - the line srtarting 'table{margin-bottom:1.4em'. The very next line (td) is painting the borders.
The 'p.img' in the same file is floating all your inmages left.
