Pardon this newbie question - I am trying to customise my home page in WP, and trying to put some dynamically generated content in there - such as Hot Topics
I read the documentation on the subject and it tells you to put the tag into your posts pages etc - sounds EASY!:
You can also call this function by using a shortcode on pages, posts or widgets.
[sp_topicLinkTag'topicId=10']
How do I do that - I went into HTML and pasted the short code above and I am sure I am doing something wrong here.

just to be clear, that is not at template tag, but a shortcode... most of the functionality in the template tags plugin can be invoked either with a template function (a php function call) or a shortcode...
which you want to use is really dependent on where you want it... typically you would use a shortcode within a wp post or page.... typically, you would use a template function within a theme template file or in widgets...
so what are you trying to do?
