SimplePress not directing correctly with .html extension plugin

From the start of my WordPress site I have been using an .html extension plugin called .html on PAGE which appends .html to every page and post on site.

I am now adding a WishList Membership to my site with SimplePress v5.0.5. This is proving very frustrating for my VA and I, because I can't view the individual forums or messages due to the link structure.

Because we cannot update the forum permalink from:
http://www.kimvazquez.com/forum.html, we tried a redirect index page to lead to http://www.kimvazquez.com/forum.

Unfortunately, the forums and posts all add the .html exension and are not found. For example, this page is not found: http://www.kimvazquez.com/foru.....s-from-kim. However, when we remove .html, the forum appears as expected here: http://www.kimvazquez.com/foru.....s-from-kim

We were able to get the profile page to appear by updating the URL to http://www.kimvazquez.com/forum/profile

What do I need to do to address a change to the URL structure, like this? It has been suggested to turn off the .html plugin and redirect all the pages already published, but that is too labor intensive as my site is already established.

I was not able to find a topic in the forum here, nor search for a solution outside, although I found many questions with the same situation. Thank you for any insight!

I must say I have never understood why anyone would want to do this but that is not really the point.
How does this plugin actually work? Does it change the physical names of the pages or just change things at load time?

When I had my blog imported, someone set it up for me. Now that it's established, I'm not comfortable changing it and the ranking I've built up.

The way it looks like it works is that it changes the physical page names, adding the extension to all by default. There was some talk on their forum, about how to turn it off for some pages, but no responses. Is there a way I can easily tell if it's changing the names? Does this help at all? Is there hope for a fix?

Thank you!

not sure how I would fix that plugin...  still not sure how its affecting urls and rewrite rules to do that... is it modifying .htaccess?

is there any chance via options to tell it to ignore specific pages? (whoops, see answer above - a shame really)...

Hi all!

It isn't that I really wish to use this plug in anymore. It was set up this way a long time ago when I didn't know any better. Since then I've built a following and a ranking that I need to hold onto. If I disable this plug in now to get the forum to work correctly I will make all of my prior pages and postings invalid addresses.:(

This is the plug in being used through wordpress: http://www.introsites.co.uk/wo.....lugin.html

I'm hoping that within simple press there might be a way to work around it?

Thanks!

mmm. Just spent an hour or so investigating this and trying to see if there is any decent way around it and so far no luck. I will keep thinking and looking but I am not hopeful.

Thank you for looking into it... I really appreciate your time and help.

What has been suggested, I'm just not sure how to execute, is 301 redirecting the hundreds of pages and posts by way of the .htaccess file (?), so the extension plugin can be turned off. That way the link juice goes to the new pages properly and the benefit is plugin functionality. It's very labor intensive, as I mentioned earlier.

I'll keep my fingers crossed...

That might be the best answer to be honest but I don't believe you would need an entry for every page and post. Having said that this is not an area I have much knowledge of....
